The ELDT (Entry-Level Driver Training) is a program that helps new drivers become more confident and competent behind the wheel. It is aimed at teenagers who are just beginning to learn how to drive, as well as adults who need to brush up on their skills. The course covers the basics of driving safety and other important topics such as proper vehicle maintenance, traffic laws, and driving techniques. It consists of three parts: an online theory module, a classroom section, and an in-car practical assessment.
The ELDT gives you a complete understanding of what it takes to be a responsible driver. With this knowledge, you can hit the road feeling confident and ready for any situation that comes your way. Completion does not guarantee a license, but it provides the basic knowledge needed to pass the necessary tests and become a licensed driver.
What you will learn
The course is designed to help new drivers gain the skills and knowledge they need to become safe, responsible drivers. It covers all the basics of driving, from how to start your vehicle to how to properly check your blind spots while merging into traffic. You'll also learn the rules of the road, including traffic signs, signals, and regulations.
In addition to the fundamentals, the course provides a comprehensive understanding of defensive driving techniques. You'll learn about staying alert, avoiding distractions, sharing the road with other drivers, and how to react in emergencies. You'll also be taught how to properly look for hazards to stay safe on the road.
Throughout the course, you'll take multiple simulated driving tests that let you hone your skills, and you'll receive feedback from our experienced instructors so you're prepared before taking your final exam.
How long it takes
The ELDT is a comprehensive program made up of two parts: classroom training and behind-the-wheel practice. The classroom portion typically takes approximately 30 hours to complete, depending on your prior knowledge and experience. During this part, you learn about safe driving techniques, traffic laws, vehicle maintenance, and driving etiquette.
The behind-the-wheel practice requires students to apply their newly learned skills in a safe, controlled environment. This typically takes another 10 to 15 hours, spread out over several days or weeks. Students practice the basics of driving: starting, stopping, turning, and parking. Overall, the ELDT requires 40 to 45 hours of total instruction time.
Requirements to enroll
Generally, you must be at least 16 years old and have a valid driver's license or learner's permit. You need to pass a vision exam showing your vision is good enough to drive safely, and you may need additional documents such as a birth certificate or Social Security card.
You'll need to demonstrate a basic knowledge of driving laws and safety practices by taking a written exam. If you are under 18, you may also need parental consent. Finally, you'll need to show proof of insurance coverage for your vehicle if you plan to take the on-road portion of the course.
How much it costs
The cost varies depending on the type of license you are trying to obtain. For the Class C (non-commercial) license, the cost is typically around $350–$400. For the Class A (commercial) license, the cost is usually around $600–$800.
